The Cigar Journal names this edition a top 25 cigar of the year with a perfect description. “This cigar has a fine sweetness, roasted and woody aromas, as well as opulent spice. There is also some eucalyptus freshness and coffee/nut aromas in the creamy smoke. Complex and flavorful.”

Casa Turrent 1942 Maduro
$99.00 – $145.00Casa Turrent 1942 Maduro celebrates the year of birth of Alejandro Turrent’s father.
The 1942 Maduro uses a Mexican San Andrés negro Colorado wrapper grown exclusively by the company for this cigar. Completing the blend is a San Andrés criollo binder leaf along with fillers of San Andres Criollo, San Andrés Negro and specially selected Nicaraguan tobacco.
Turrent calls it a medium to full strength cigar that is spicy without being aggressive, offering more complexity that the Serie 1901 line. Developing Palates says the 1942 is one of those good cigars where it manages to deliver layers of rich flavor from the start all the way to the nub.

Davidoff Escurio

Casa Magna Jalapa Claro
$127.98 – $150.12Casa Magna Jalapa Claro is another successful collaboration between Master Blenders Manny Quesada and Nestor Plasencia Sr. featuring the same Nicaraguan binder and filler as the original cigar that won Cigar of the Year in 2008.
The big difference here is the wrapper has been replaced with a light claro leaf from Nicaragua’s Jalapa Valley. The result is now a smooth smoking medium to full bodied cigar with sweet woody flavors encompassing hickory, mesquite to maple and oak.
Without reservation, Cigar Aficionado rated it a very respectable score of 90. Their description is spot on. ” This tawny cigar is softly pressed with an even burn and superb draw. Light touches of wood and tea gain intensity, exhibiting leather, coffee bean and just the right amount of earthiness.”

It’s important to know that Turrent’s San Andrés Morrón maduro wrapper leaf is widely considered by aficionados to be one of the finest available in the world. This dark and oily Maduro is a combination of very select Mexican and Nicaraguan tobaccos. Encasing this gem is the famous wrapper in question. The results are as expected.
Cigar Aficionado rates it an astounding 94! They have a lot to say about it. “A dark, pressed robusto. Each puff envelops the palate with cocoa powder and coffee before a sweet, luxurious finish redolent of caramel and black cherry.” Noted reviewer KATMAN wholeheartedly agrees and ups it with a score of 95. But if not, the 93 rated Belicoso will do just fine! Get your favorite whiskey, bourbon, beer or wine in hand and enjoy.
