Casa Turrent 1880 Claro is an extremely popular cigar in this company’s lineup. To begin with, Alberto and Alejandro Turrent, owners of Nueva Matacapan de Tabacos S.A de C.V are the first family of Mexico’s cigar industry. The father-son team make some of Mexico’s best cigars. They are also the largest grower of cigar tobacco in the country. The San Andres Maduro leaf growing outside of Veracruz is world renowned for its quality. A variety of their tobaccos are important components in many of America’s most popular premium cigar brands.
With attention to detail, this Casa Turrent in particular possesses perfect craftsmanship and a smooth draw. The fact that a Lancero and Perfecto size is available speaks for itself. These two vitolas still remain the most intricate to produce. The result of all this effort speaks for itself. This blend is mild to medium strength smooth smoking cigar from start to finish. All the tobacco for this edition is simply the best of the best.
Cigar Aficionado says the 1880 Claro has an easy draw and even burn with accents of wood, white pepper and herbs enliven the peanut core before an oaky finish. Cigar Lovers Magazine tells us it’s well made, with a generous and uniform filling. The construction is flawless and balanced cigar with a decent intensity. Cigars and Spirits Magazine think highly of this cigar. Their description is perfect. “The flavors are distinctly nutty from the jump. Chestnuts and almonds with a nuanced saltiness that mingles nicely with hints of cinnamon and oak.”
To sum up, Casa Turrent 1880 Claro is available in four very popular sizes of 10 count boxes.

While I haven’t tried the noticeably milder Casa Turrent 1880 Claro, I was very impressed with its 91 rating. It turns out that one of my mates from the UK was smoking one as we were facetiming a while back. He described it as follows;
“Its covered in a beautiful light colored Tawny wrapper and its smooth and flavourful, the tastes builds from the first draw with a sort of earthy note and caramel to start. Then its joined by savoury leather, cinnamon and nutmeg with a subtly aromatic floral note along with dried fruits, pecan nuts and peat smoke. ”
After we hung up he informed me that it had a slightly sweet woody finish.
