Description
Casa Turrent 1880 Oscuro is another extremely unique cigar in this company’s lineup. To begin with, Alberto and Alejandro Turrent, owners of Nueva Matacapan de Tabacos S.A de C.V are the first family of Mexico’s cigar industry. The father-son team make some of Mexico’s best cigars. They are also the largest grower of cigar tobacco in the country. The San Andres Maduro leaf growing outside of Veracruz is world renowned for its quality. A variety of their tobaccos are important components in many of America’s most popular premium cigar brands.
With attention to detail, the 1880 Oscuro stands as a testament to this company’s expertise. This Mexican purebred will change any smoker’s mind about Mexican cigars….PERIOD. This entry consists entirely of vintage San Andrés Criollo Habano tobacco. The result is a medium to full bodied smoke showcasing these carefully cultivated leaves.
Cigar Aficionado feels… “Its a good-looking cigar with a flat head and dark wrapper. Bold notes of black pepper, leather, almond and concentrated citrus.” Cigar Lovers Magazine says… it possesses nutty notes together with milk chocolate. Cigar Century describes it as a medium strength smoke with flavor notes of earth, nuts and chocolate. It’s hard to believe that all this is coming from one type of tobacco.
To sum up, Casa Turrent 1880 Oscuro comes in 4 very popular sizes of 10 count boxes.

I feel Casa Turrent produces the world’s best Mexican cigars. It’s been understandable how many smokers have steered clear of this country’s offerings over the years. While many blenders have cherry picked Mexican leaves to add character in binders and fillers, using all Mexican tobacco has never produced a memorable smoke. ….. at least for me. Enter the Turrent family to dramatically change all this.
The medium to full bodied Casa Turrent 1880 Oscuros dark, toothy wrapper gets your attention right off the bat. Then you’ll notice the firmness letting you know there’s a lot of tobacco inside. The open draw yields a steady stream of robust aromatic smoke. And that’s just the beginning. Soon enough you’ll be rewarded with complex flavor notes of cinnamon, peppercorns and hard woods followed by bits hazelnuts and semi-sweet cocoa . Combine this with a bit of spice and you’ll agree, this is definitely not your father’s Mexican cigar. The Lanceros are my favorite.
