Description
La Gloria Cubana Spanish Press is definitely one of this company’s most unique entries. To begin with, La Gloria Cubana is a premium cigar brand originating in Cuba in 1885. Needless to say, the brand has a rich history. The founding family of Ernest Perez-Carrillo fled to the United States and began to produce the first non-Cuban La Gloria Cubana blend in Miami at the El Credito cigar factory. Now owned by General Cigar, La Gloria Cubana offers a variety of blends, each with its own distinctive flavor profile and construction. To this end, these cigars are wonderfully complex and continue to be enjoyed by countless smokers.
With attention to detail, this Spanish Press edition blend uses a Nicaraguan Jalapa wrapper encasing a Mexican San Andrés binder. The exquisite fillers include Brazilian mata fina, Dominican olor and piloto cubano along with Nicaraguan Jalapa . It’s important to note the Spanish Press method of producing cigars is a very old world pre-embargo technique using boxes instead of molds. The result is a spectacular medium strength and body cigar from start to finish.
Noted Reviewer KATMAN quickly rates this unique cigar a score 0f 90 claiming the cigar is simply amazing. Blind Man’s Puff simply says that LGC Spanish press is “ A Magnificent Cigar” They up it a 92. Cigar Coop agrees with the same 92 and aptly describes this LGC as a flavor bomb. Think Natural Tobacco, Red Licorice, Pepper, Baker’s Spice, Earth for starters. No doubt this is another winner for this storied brand.
To sum up, La Gloria Cubana Spanish Press comes in three popular sizes of 20 count boxes

This iconic brand which is available to us is still being made in Cuba. When the founding family fled to the United States without access to Cuban tobacco they developed a signature blend that many feel exceeds the Cuban original. Now owned by General Cigar, over the years, the La Gloria Cubana portfolio of size and style offerings has greatly expanded. These medium to full bodied cigars are wonderfully complex and have been enjoyed by countless smokers.
There’s alot going on with this cigar. First off, “Spanish Press” is an old world pre-embargo technique for shaping the cigars without the aid of molds which are used today. In the past, specially selected boxes that are designed to apply equal pressure to all sides were carefully filled by very carefully inserting the cigars by hand allowing an extended time to pass for completion. The result is an extraordinary draw and a very slow and cool burning stick. The four country blend of this medium to full bodied edition yields notes of spices, cedar wood and buttered toast with an elevated level of flavor. This characteristic is due in part to the wrapper’s toothy complexion. By this I mean the outer leaf has what appears to be small bumps across the surface that actually contain heightened amounts of tobacco oil. As you move this cigar along its strength and intensity increase as these little flavor pockets are released . This is one of my favorite La Glorias. Enjoy, BIG TIME!
