Description
Montecristo Connoisseur is one of this iconic company’s most unique offerings. To begin with, Altadis acquired the Montecristo name for outside of Cuba in 1990 and began producing many sizes and styles available to all of us. Over the years, this brand’s portfolio continues to grow adding blends appealing to every smoker. Expensive? Yes. Worth the price? Absolutely. That is to say quality, consistency, draw and taste complexity remain perfect to this day.
These Connoisseur offerings hit the street just over 10 years ago with the New York edition being the first entry. The line then expanded to represent other states. At the time of their introduction they could not be found in a store outside of a version’s namesake state. Oddly enough, even after the aura of exclusivity wore off, the cigars continued to be made and sold. Why? Because when the dust cleared, they are still exceptionally good.
With attention to detail, the New York Connoisseur is the creation of the renowned Tabacalera de Garcia. This masterfully made cigar is box-pressed and finished with an absolutely beautiful Ecuadorian Habano wrapper. Without a doubt, it’s smooth, balanced, draws perfectly and is a great smoking experience. With this in mind, on one hand, Cigar Aficionado rates it a a respectable 90. Enter Cigar Coop with an astounding score of 94 and without a doubt we have a winner! Considering the sheer exclusivity of this very special cigar, get them while we still have them!
To sum up, the Montecristo Connoisseur New York Edition is only available in the Magnum (6 x 60) Gordo of 10 count boxes.

These very cool cigars hit the street about 10 years ago with the NY edition being the first entry. The line then expanded to represent other states. At the time they were introduced, the “CIGAR POLICE” made sure they were never found in a store outside of an edition’s namesake state. They were and still are pretty expensive. Oddly enough, even after the aura of exclusivity wore off, the cigars continued to be made and sold. Why? Because when the dust cleared, they’re still exceptionally good medium bodied sticks.
The New York cigar is blended at the renowned Tabacalera de Garcia, is box-pressed, un cellowed and finished with an absolutely beautiful Ecuadorian Habano wrapper. It’s smooth, balanced, draws perfectly and is a great smoking experience.
The Texas blend is also box-pressed, un cellowed and more of a complex stick yielding a slightly elevated taste at the top of the medium bodied scale. Like it’s N.Y. cousin, it also draws well and is an enjoyable smoking experience as well.
***Keep in mind that I recommend NOT buying five of these sticks at a time. They’re delicate specimens that should remain in their boxes for traveling.
