Description
Without doubt, Montecristo Espada is one of this iconic company’s best cigars ever! To begin with, when this iconic Cuban brand was launched in 1935, the world of Premium Cigars changed forever. Altadis acquired the Montecristo name for outside of Cuba in 1990 and began producing many sizes and styles available to all of us. Over the years, this brand’s portfolio continues to grow adding blends appealing to every smoker. Expensive? Yes. Worth the price? Absolutely. Quality, consistency, draw and taste complexity remain perfect to this day.
The Spanish lesson for today is: Espada means sword. When the Espada appeared garnering a 92 rating and becoming one of the top 25 cigars of the year we all knew it was worth the price. What must be remembered is Espada is made in Nicaragua at Plasencia Cigars and is a collaboration between Plasencia and the Altadis blending team, Grupo de Maestros.
With attention to detail, the very rare wrapper from 2010 encases vintage Nicaraguan filler and binder tobacco from three prized growing regions. In fact, the filler and binder leaves are even older! The result is a medium bodied purebred with an interesting combination of sweetness and spice thats creamy and balanced. Cigar Aficionado describes this amazing smoke perfectly. “An exceptional smoke offering the spice of a gingersnap with touches of cinnamon that build to a sweet, spicy finish.”
It’s no surprise Espada has been pleasing cigar smokers for almost a decade and is still going strong.
To sum up, Montecristo Espada is available in 5 popular sizes of 10 count boxes. Together with a selection of 5 packs to choose from, there’s no excuse not to try this amazing cigar.

When this Cuban brand was launched in 1935, the world of Premium Cigars changed forever. Their #2 Torpedo became the world’s biggest selling cigar. I’ve had a few of them over the years and can honestly say they were ok. But that’s just me. Altadis acquired this iconic name decades ago and began producing many sizes and styles available to all of us.
My Spanish lesson for today is : Espada means sword. This amazing edition began launching in 2014 and continued offering different sizes as it moved forward. When the Quillon size appeared in 2016 garnering a 92 rating and becoming one of the top 25 cigars of the year we all knew it was worth the price. The vintage Nicaraguan fillers from three prized growing regions and binder are encased in a very rare, aged wrapper from 2010. The result is a medium bodied purebred that is an interesting combination of sweetness and spice thats creamy and balanced.
