Many years ago a friend of mine gave me a Cuban Sancho Panza cigar. All in all it was very good albeit a bit stronger than I would have liked along with a kind of rough finish. Not long after that in 2001, General Cigar introduced their all Honduran non Cuban version of this long storied brand. In 2004 the company exchanged the Connecticut-shade wrapper for Cuban-seed leaf grown in Honduras, The result was a richer and more flavorful cigar. When the Sancho Panza Extra Fuerte scored a 91 rating and named a top 25 cigar for the year, many of us had to try it. While the Extra Fuerte stays in the medium bodied range, it delivers a lot more natural tobacco taste than its predecessor. This is a simple, straightforward cigar that’s smooth and enjoyable from start to finish.
