When Drew Estate launched Liga Undercrown Maduro back in 2017 not only did it get a 91 rating, it was placed in the top 25 cigars of that year. Those of us that have enjoyed the coveted, super exclusive Liga Privada brand over the years looked twice! Not only is this fantastic cigar made in the image of Liga Privada, it uses some of their signature blends blends as well.

La Flor Dominicana Solis is another recent addition to this great company’s lineup.
To begin with, Solis comes from the Latin word “sol” meaning sun. When it comes to cigars, it means special. It’s also worth noting that Master Blender Litto Gomez’s son Litto Jr. is the chief architect of 2022 release. How does it rate out there in cigar land? How about Cigar Aficionado @ 90, Cigar Coop @91, Blind Man’s Puff @ 91 and Cigar Authority @ 92. Needless to say, Solis is another winner for La Flor…..hands down!
With attention to detail, this cigar features a sun grown Habano wrapper, Sumatra Binder, and a blend of Dominican tobaccos from La Flor Dominicana’s own farm in La Canela. After the huge success of Tabernacle’s original entry, Foundation’s owner put on his mad scientist, Master Blender hat and went to work. With this edition, the wrapper was spawned from a combination of Cuban seed and Connecticut seed tobaccos encasing Nicaraguan and Honduran filler leaves with a San Andreas Mexican binder. The result is a smooth and balanced medium to full bodied stick that slowly increases in intensity as you move along with a pleasant sweetness that’s not overpowering.
Origin – Dominican Republic
Filler – Honduran – Nicaraguan
Binder – Mexican
Wrapper Type – Connecticut
Ok, I’ll admit it. This is one of my personal favorites. Henry Clay has a rich heritage dating back to Cuba. Cigar giant Altadis has done a great job with this old school brand. This complex little guy is wrapped in a near black USA grown Connecticut Broadleaf with a Honduran Broadleaf binder. The Dominican fillers are combined with a rarely used, very powerful Capa Dura Honduran leaf which oddly enough, is a leaf thats grows on the plant after its been harvested. The result is a highly rated medium-full bodied pigtailed powerhouse with a $4 price.
Origin – Honduras
Filler – Dominican

The super dark and oily wrapped Black edition was introduced in 2006. It’s proprietary blend of tobaccos were aged three years before release. This Cohiba is an espresso of a cigar with a deep, lustrous wrapper that consistently delivers rich, concentrated flavor. The result is a long burning, super smooth medium to full bodied taste that is so satisfying you’ll forget about the price and hesitate to share them!
I can’t think of better gift as well than a box of 10 glass tubes.

Viaje Supershot is another very popular small bath blend from this great company.
With attention to detail, the Supershot is an all-Nicaraguan puro featuring a Nicaraguan Criollo wrapper. Cigar Coop rates this little beauty a score of 91. Their words describe this cigar perfectly.” This Supershot is one of the smoothest blends in the line to date. Delivering a mix of mocha (coffee and chocolate), cream, pepper spice, and some citrus. This is certainly one I’d advise checking out.”
With this in mind, noted reviewer KATMAN exclaims, “It amazes me how oily the wrapper is. It is almost art. The cigar continues on its journey and the strength is increasing. The flavor profile keeps increasing. The cigar possesses balance with a very long finish”.

La Vieja Habana Maduro is another one of Drew Estate’s masterpieces that are totally affordable for everyone to enjoy! Believe it or not, La Vieja Habana was Drew Estate’s first brand! Handmade from the quality leaf left over from the manufacture of Drew Estate’s premium cigar brands, the La Vieja Habana is an exceptional smoking value. This tripa mezclado cigar consistently delivers a great flavor with an excellent draw and burn.
The toothy, oily and dark Brazilian wrapper covers mixed filler tobaccos from Estelí and Jalapa Valley in Nicaragua. This cigar is medium bodied with rich flavors and lots of character with hints of chocolate and coffee. The La Vieja Maduro leaves you with a slightly sweet aftertaste that would have you craving for more. Great after a hearty steak with your favorite scotch.
But Beware! Due to the popularity of these these cigars, they are in and out of stock frequently. So if you’re looking for an affordable, hand made smoke that can be enjoyed everyday, pick one we have and enjoy!

With attention to detail, Long Live the Queen is a four-country blend consisting of a reddish-brown Cameroon cover leaf, a Sumatra binder grown in Indonesia and a mix of Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers. What’s more important is these cigars have been aging for the better part of a year after they were rolled, so these are ready to be smoked right out of the box. When the highly critical folks at Stogie Press gave it an astounding 97 rating, they described this medium bodied, slow burning cigar as amazing. The senior reviewer at Halfwheel said it best, “In fact, this is a flavor bomb of almost epic proportions. It’s incredibly sweet and creamy on the palate, but with enough spice and white pepper to enhance the flavors instead of taking anything away from the overall profile.”
Wrapper: Cameroon
Binder: Indonesian Sumatra
Filler: Dominican, Nicaraguan
Casa Turrent 1880 Oscuro is another extremely unique cigar in this company’s lineup.
The 1880 Oscuro stands as a testament to this company’s expertise. This Mexican purebred will change any smoker’s mind about Mexican cigars….PERIOD. This entry consists entirely of vintage San Andrés Criollo Habano tobacco. The result is a medium to full bodied smoke showcasing these carefully cultivated leaves.
Cigar Aficionado feels… “Its a good-looking cigar with a flat head and dark wrapper. Bold notes of black pepper, leather, almond and concentrated citrus.” Cigar Lovers Magazine says… it possesses nutty notes together with milk chocolate. Cigar Century describes it as a medium strength smoke with flavor notes of earth, nuts and chocolate. It’s hard to believe that all this is coming from one type of tobacco.
If you’ve never tried a Mexican cigar, this Casa Turrent should be your top pick….HANDS DOWN!

According to Davidoff, there are only eight rollers who work on the Royal Release cigars, each of which has at least 15 years experience. The tobaccos come from a 2004-05 harvest that had a year of near perfect growing conditions and ideal rainfall.
When the highly critical folks at Half Wheel gave it a 91 rating, they described this Super Premium Luxury smoke best. “The cigar is a flavor-bomb, with a profile full of rich, decadent and complex notes. The construction was fantastic overall. Of course, the price tag will keep most people away. But if you can afford it, you won’t be disappointed in the experience.” With attention to detail, this exclusive cigar is made for affluent connoisseurs. If you fit the bill, this very unique cigar is for you!

If you’ve read my “Bundles of Joy” article posted in the ASK RICHIE section of this website, you know how most cigar makers increased the amount of bundled value brands they offer to budget conscious smokers. Umbagog, named for Dunbarton’s owner’s favorite New Hampshire lake, doesn’t quite fall into this category. While the cigars are wrapped in paper and priced considerably lower than their other entries, they’re definitely not bargain smokes. What they are is another great medium to full bodied edition that is well made like the others offering a more straightforward taste. Natural tobacco, black licorice and some peppery spices appears early on and remain throughout.

I hate to continue repeating myself in describing these great brands editions. Some of you may think that they’re all just full-bodied sticks and that’s that. What Litto Gomez has achieved over the years as a master blender is almost unduplicated. The differences in taste characteristics is defined but the overall contents have remained consistent year after year. This has been proven by this product’s continual difficulty to purchase on an ongoing basis. This is another full-bodied masterpiece for those of us that can handle them.

This great brand traces its roots back to 1886 when Melanio Oliva began growing tobacco in Cuba. After the revolution, his grandson Gilberto went to Spain and then settled in Nicaragua. In 1995 Gilberto and his son Gilberto Jr. launched the company.
If you’re a fan of Oliva cigars, you’ll agree that this company delivers what you pay for. While their super premiums are priced fairly considering the great sticks they are…….they ain’t cheap! When the Flor De Oliva bundles of value-priced premiums were launched, the company made it very clear that everyone can now enjoy their brand every day for around $3 each! Even those folks that smoked long cigars with big ring sizes.
The Original edition is a medium-bodied stick that burns slowly and increases in intensity as you move along. I’ve often smoked the Churchills halfway down and thrown the rest away without any guilt!

Filler – Dominican-Nicaraguan
Binder – Nicaraguan
Wrapper Type – Connecticut Broadleaf-Sumatra
It’s hard to believe this Arturo Fuente made premium brand is approaching a 30th birthday. I was young and beautiful when I smoked my first one! While the blend of leaves is different from the company’s signature line, these well made, fairly priced, medium bodied, smooth tasting sticks have remained very popular over the years. I’ve often looked at them as kind of “comfort cigars”.

There’s a few reasons why 90 rated Ashtons have remained in the top ten for decades. They are made by the folks at Arturo Fuente. They are insanely consistent and remain one of the benchmarks for mild to mellow taste. If you’ve smoked them you know. If you haven’t, I envy you!
Those of us that have enjoyed Ashton’s Classic series over the years have become accustomed to their signature taste. When the Puro Sol edition was launched it was Ashton’s first venture into the medium bodied category. Bang! Not only did it get a 94 rating, it placed #7 of the top 25 best cigars of the year. So if you’ve enjoyed Ashton Classics, you must step up and try the Ashton Heritage Puro Sol flavorful beauty.

There’s a reason why this brand has been around forever. They’re very good cigars! The intricate three country blend has remained eerily consistent over decades. This mellow to medium bodied stick draws well, burns perfectly and has a smooth finish. What it lacks in marketing sizzle it more than makes up for in substance and character.

The Matilde Oscura Grande is a luxurious and complex smoking experience featuring a meticulously selected blend of premium tobaccos that deliver a harmonious balance of flavors.
The highly critical folks at Cigar Dojo rate this great smoke a score of 92. Their description will give you all you need to know. “One of the most noticeably favorable aspects of the Oscura is its balance. There’s never too much of a certain flavor, or any harsh or unwanted qualities. In the last portion of the smoke, the full flavors are met with an increasing strength/body, which are around medium-full. Notes of oak, cinnamon, acidic coffee, and chicory balance out the end out the smoke from start to finish. This was a very interesting profile, offering a great balance of decadent, heavy chocolate sweetness against sharper notes of organic elements, with lots of oaks and root-like aspects—a great change of pace from today’s average maduro.”
It’s safe to say Matilde Oscura Grande is a winner!

Warped Flor Del Valle Sky Flower is a tribute to the tradition and artistic expression of old-world cigar-making with a modern twist.
Each of these cigars is a testament to the craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail that Warped is known for. At the heart of the Flor Del Valle Sky Flower is an exclusive and unique blend of Aganorsa Leaf tobaccos producing rich flavor and aromatic qualities. The fillers and binder are a combination of rare Nicaraguan Corojo and Criollo leaves. The result is a medium to full-bodied profile that is intensely satisfying.
Cigar Coop rates this blend a very respectable 92. Their description is short and sweet. “The Sky Flower was an excellent cigar from start to finish.” Cigar Aficionado thinks this Lancero is worth a try as well. “A long, thin, matte-brown cigar with a multi-seam cap and some prominent veins. First puffs ease the palate into a warm breadiness, eventually showing lively notes of nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves before the black tea finish.”

Casa Turrent 1880 Maduro is another highly rated blend from this hugely popular series.
The 1880 Maduro contains vintage Mexican (Criollo 98) & Nicaragua (Criollo 98) filler. Add to this a Mexican (Criollo 98) binder and you know it’s going to be special. Encase all this with a Mexican San Andrés grade A Maduro wrapper completing the formula and you have a very complexly blended masterpiece.
Cigar Aficionado rates this dark entry a 91 with a perfect description. “A near-black cigar that draws evenly. Layering the palate with notes of spicy licorice, wood and dark toast. All leading to a nutty core of almond, cashew and peanut. The finish is long and spicy.” And for the record, Cigar Coop and Halfwheel both score it a respectable 90.
No doubt, this is another winner for Casa Turrent, hands down! Sooner or later, you’ll want to try one of this company’s great smokes.
