Rocky Patel Sun Grown Maduro
$50.63 – $244.80No one disputes that Rocky Patel is one of the few Titans of the Premium Cigar Industry. Over 20 years ago as he began his quest to get a foothold in the marketplace he actually got in his car and traveled the country visiting high volume Tobacconists unannounced! When he wound up in my store to sell his first entry, I hesitantly took a chance on him. Actually, he was such a nice and appreciative person I couldn’t resist! The rest is cigar history!
This cigar is a masterpiece. Not only did it rank #2 of the top 25 cigars in 2016, it garnered a 95 rating beating out many of its Cuban competitors! Make no mistake, this dark cigar is a very complex extra full bodied smoke. While the Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper gives this box pressed stick a bit of sweetness along the way, the bold, robust taste is smooth to the finish.

With attention to detail, this box pressed Red blend uses an Ecuadoran Habano ligero wrapper blended with Nicaraguan fillers including twelve-year aged Nicaraguan Ometepe, ten-year aged Honduran Jamastran and five-year-aged Nicaraguan Esteli, and a Jalapa binder. To say this is a very complex blend is an understatement!
Cigar Coop rates the Red a respectable 90. The description is spot on on all fronts. “This was an excellent offering. While it’s not a cigar that will knock you down with strength, it is a cigar that delivers on a fuller-bodied experience. I found the flavor profile to be quite enjoyable and things worked nicely in the box-press format. While it is fuller, it’s a great cigar for a novice to graduate to something fuller – and will appeal to the more seasoned cigar enthusiast.”

CAO Classic: Pilon
$138.42 – $179.82CAO Classic: Pilon continues to be one of this company’s best sellers for almost a decade.
Pilon gets its name from the fermentation technique that goes back to 1800s Cuba. Skilled workers called piloneros used a slow, 18-month fermentation technique using smaller round pilons instead of today’s huge square ones. The result is an enjoyable smoke producing a complex medium to full bodied flavor with a great blend of sweetness and spice. In fact, when Blind Man’s Puff recently revisited this cigar, their rating went from 91 to 93!

$20.00 – $81.96La Vieja Habana Corojo is another one of Drew Estate’s masterpieces that are totally affordable for everyone to enjoy!

$37.69 – $52.84Factory Smokes Sungrown is one of four of Drew Estate’s entries into the ever growing handmade Budget-Value category for all of us to enjoy for under $2 a stick!

To put it another way, these leaves are the same crop used in their premiums! And on top of this, Factory smokes were created by Master Blenders Willie Herrera and Jonathon Drew himself!
A point often overlooked is that bundled cigars are rarely review and rated. But it’s no surprise that many critics were duly impressed. With this in mind, here’s what some had to say about Factory Smokes Sungrown:
Smooth burn/Clean finish/Notes of cedar and spice/Good draw/No sour or bitter tastes/Great taste/
Notes of cream, natural tobacco, and sweet woodsy nuancesYou be the judge. But without a doubt, these cigars are worth more than their price for sure!

Caldwell Savages
$101.70 – $155.70What we don’t know about this interesting edition is the blend with the exception of the wrapper. What we do know is that it’s terrific! This brand launched in 2016 on a very limited edition basis in only its corona size. As with most of Caldwell’s entries, it was well received, pricey and quickly sold out. It’s now generally available in a variety of popular sizes. This cigar stays firmly in the medium bodied range and has a slightly sweet and pepper like complexity that isn’t overpowering. This cigar is incredibly rich, complex, well-balanced, smooth and enjoyable any time of day.

The selected blend of Nicaraguan inners combined with the dark, vintage San Andreas Mexican wrapper yields a totally enjoyable cigar for a more than fair price. $124.78 – $469.68Montecristo White is one of this long storied company’s most popular cigars.
When this White banded edition appeared in 2017, an entirely new group of smokers discovered this brand for the first time. Many of those folks that gravitated to mild to mellow tasting cigars now had a Montecristo to call their own. The addition of tamer Nicaraguan fillers with Dominican leaves and encasing it with an Ecuadorian grown Connecticut seed wrapper yields a smooth, lighter smoke with a tiny bit of crispy spice that’s enjoyable for everyone.
There was no doubt this cigar was a hit as the accolades poured in. When Blind Man’s Puff rated it at 94, they said it best. “Excellent smoke! Crowned Heads Juarez
$23.99 – $252.00Crowned Heads Juarez is a value-conscious alternative to the company’s popular Jericho Hill brand.
Juarez is a full-bodied cigar with a San Andres Mexican wrapper and tobaccos from Ecuador, Nicaragua, and the Dominican Republic. To call this robust cigar a flavor bomb is an understatement. Noted reviewer KATMAN rates it a 91. His summary confirms this for sure. ” There is a new caramel or butterscotch flavor. It gives the creaminess a leg up. And now a strong peanut element appears. With the fruitiness and baked bread flavors, it is like smoking a PB&J.”
Cigar Authority ups the score to 94 exclaiming…”It’s incredibly rich and flavorful and a definite must have.” And then there’s Cigar Coop scoring a respectable 90. Their summary is perfectly said. “It definitely provided a smoother smoke than your typical San Andres offering, and brought a nice balance of sweetness and spice to the forefront.”
Juarez is a must try for sure!

Warped Futuro
$184.50 – $189.00What is it about Warped Futuro? As the story goes, Eduardo Fernandez created Fernandez Aganorsa farms in 1998 to produce the finest cigar tobacco in the world along with the most talented growers from Cuba. Warped Futuro came to market in 2016 as a collaboration of Eduardo and Warp’s young founder. This edition’s intricate blend of 1998 Criollo and 1999 Corojo long leaf fillers encased in a 1999 Corojo wrapper represents Aganorsa rarest and finest vintage tobacco. The rarely applied tri-seamed cap is another testament to the attention paid in making this spicy and creamy medium to full bodied jewel.

Tatuaje Black
$153.00 – $220.00Since its launch in 2003, Pete Johnson’s Tatuaje cigar portfolio has grown to include more than 20 brands—both in regular and limited production and has grown from unknown status to one of the cigar industry’s highly rated and sought-after boutique cigar brands. Johnson himself has also evolved from an unknown newcomer to visionary and respected industry entrepreneur.
This Black edition was very elusive to most folks for a long while. After an exhausting series of sporadic releases, it’s nice to know you can get it on our site. This 92 rated, full bodied Nicaraguan puro wears a dark, oily, aged sun grown Criollo wrapper encasing a very interesting blend of fillers and binder. The result is smooth and strong smoking experience that actually yields a sweetness reminiscent of a nice red wine! The petite lancero is my favorite.Origin – Nicaragua

Rocky Patel Sun Grown
$99.50 – $235.00No one disputes that Rocky Patel is one of the few Titans of the Premium Cigar Industry.
The sun grown edition is a chameleon like flavor changer. The 5 year old Ecuadorian Sun Grown wrapper gives it a spicy/sweet kind of taste that starts off medium bodied and smoothly escalated to a fuller level. The key word here is smooth. The 90+ rating it has while offering a lower price point is a bonus. I recommend a five pack of petit coronas to wet your whistle with. for starters. And if you do, leave one in your humidor for a year for a real treat!

Rocky Patel Nording
$127.80 – $180.90No one disputes that Rocky Patel is one of the few Titans of the Premium Cigar Industry. One of the keys to Rocky’s success over the years is the number of choices he continues to create for all of us to enjoy.
This 90 rated edition is very special to me. Erik Nording has been one of world’s master pipe makers for decades. He actually visited my store in the late 90’s to meet with all my pipe smoking customers. What many people don’t know is that Erik is a huge cigar guy as well. As luck would have it, he and Rocky got together in 2011. This collaboration allowed Erik to create his own signature stick under Rocky’s banner. This medium-full bodied oily cigar is cool burning and smooth. It’s old school pig tailed cap gives you a hint about the complex, subtle tastes you’ll enjoy encompassing tiny bits of sweetness, spice, coffee and buttered toast.

Rocky Patel Fifty Five
$50.85 – $296.10When I turned 55….a very long time ago….I went out for dinner. When Rocky turned 55 a few years ago, he created this small batch edition. This stick is a continuation of his efforts in blending vintage Nicaraguan fillers encased in the same country’s wrapper. The twist here was adding a Costa Rican binder and letting the finished product age way longer than most would. The result has become a favorite for many smokers. This medium to full bodied stick tastes very different than his other creations yielding an interestingly smokey flavor combined with creamy sweetness and spice. The prefecto shaped Corona is my favorite of the bunch.

Perdomo 20th Anniversary Connecticut

Many years later when I went to the last big Cigar Show trying to see him was like trying to see a rock start! His success is well earned.
When the 20th Anniversary line was launched all editions were highly rated first class sticks. This Connecticut blend yields a complex mild to mellow flavor with a bit of spice and sweetness along the way.
